Celebrate small victories!
I want my 9th grade students to write and think more so I passed out paper and told them to write for 5 minutes straight.
The theme? Write the sappiest, most nauseatingly sweet bad love poem they could.
Then I told them to write for 10 minute about the worst Valentine's date they could imagine.
Roaring success! Kids who usually never bother were sharing their writing and talking about how fun the class was!
