Dan Davies comments on the "why can't we build anything any more?" debate: "things get exponentially more complicated as they get linearly bigger," which the "regrowthers" overlook. He puts it "the reason that it’s more difficult to build the second million homes is that the first million homes get in the way!"
Put that way, coupled with experience working on, say, growing codebases, it does seem kind of obvious that the solution ain't so simple as is often presented.
