Today, I visited a university class. The course focuses on project-based learning, where students map business processes and try to improve them. They create various diagrams and detailed descriptions of both the current and desired states of these processes.

It was interesting to see how many projects spoke about digitalisation initiatives within regulated industries. Students presented compelling ideas for digitising government services, implementing real-time AI AML checks and using digital platforms to streamline fishing ticket applications for more efficient regulation enforcement.

However, it was concerning to see how convinced they were of the righteousness of regulations and how eager they were to implement even stricter ones. None of them seemed to consider the wider context or how their ideas might be misused in the future.
