That's understandable.
I took the opposite approach.
I warned everyone I cared about, and they called me all the names the TV told them too.
I called them stupid, and tried to bully and shame them out of doing it to the children.
My thinking on it was simple, I would accept the bad blood if it would stop them from harming themselves, and especially the kids.
I didn't work and I lost friends, but I don't regret it.
(Only one has reached out to tell me I was right.)
