It's a good thing when new social media platforms are willing to federate with #ActivityPub platforms like #Mastodon. I want to see more of that.
It's probably not great that the first major one that will do so is (1) kind of lame, and (2) run by #Meta.
I don't think this necessarily means instances should preemptively block #Threads.
But I think it's a perk of federation that Mastodon instances can choose to block any platform or instance, at any time, for any reason or no reason at all.
