Rather than leading by example parts of the civil service are laggards on the gender pay gap.
The average UK GPG is 7%; while declining slightly, the GPG in the civi service was 8.5% in 2024.
In larger depts it was higher and/or rising: the Dept. of Heath & Social Care went from 9.1% to 13.9% in 2024 alone.... while a previously better performer, the Dept. of Education saw it GPG rise from 4/1% to 8.2%; while the Cabinet Office fell 2% to still nearly 20%!
No excuses!
