Biggest difference is that birds in flight and more distant shots are much sharper and success rate is higher. (tele convertor on my 400 was good, but without it at 600 is noticeably more effective) . Also switching to DX mode, images are again much sharper than using DX mode with a teleconvertor on my 400. What it lacks.. Option to shoot at 4.5 (400mm) and close focus range, but that's not a major issue for me).",
