Yes, I think that's a really interesting point which one sees beyond economics.... 'I seem to be OK, but things more generally aren't' - we see this also in attitudes to the NHS.
To some extent it may be the role of the media, but I would also link it to anxiety & precariousness... people feel (more than they did) that disaster is just round the corner, even if they never reach that corner....
