Martyr John the Valah, a Romanian youth, was captured by Crimean Tatars and sold into slavery to a Turkish master who tried to convert him to Islam. John refused, steadfast in his Christian faith, enduring beatings and tortures. Despite promises of wealth and freedom, he remained unyielding. Enraged, his master had him beheaded in 1662 in Constantinople. His body was thrown into the sea but miraculously recovered by Christians, emitting a heavenly light.
