Fascism is not unique to Germany or to the 20th century. It is not exclusive of America or the present day. Insisting on viewing fascism solely through the German lens (and it does not mean we should not consider it) causes us to overlook many other fascisms and therefore many other struggles, decentering and speaking over them.
