It's a slow Sunday, so I'm going to tell you a short story about me becoming a Bitcoiner, although more accurately, would be a Satoshier.
About a year ago, I heard an old man talking, and I can't even remember if it was TV, YouTube or what. He said something along the lines that we own nothing and I was sure that he was just another nutcase. But he said to try not paying your taxes for your home or your car. You might be fine for a year or even two, but at some point, the state will prove to us that we're only in temporary possession of something. At first, I thought that it was a fun thought experiment, but after a few days, it started to deeply bother me. I am a father and it was disturbing that I might find myself in a situation where my only kid won't benefit from my work since I put everything in bricks and steel.
I was starting to look in various places. Then I found out something to add insult to injury, namely that our money isn't our money. Do I need to ask for permission to use my own money? Well, it seems that we're not 100% free to do whatever we want. The traditional banks locked my accounts a few times because the state messed up with my taxes, not giving me the occasion to prove them wrong. And, sometimes, spending one month without money, without being able to pay your bills, can snowball into a big pile of crap. And it's not only about traditional banks, Revolut and TransferWise closed my accounts without explaining a single word.
My first thought was Gold. Better than nothing, I said. I was still avoiding "Crypto", mostly because my only "knowledge" about the topic came from "Crypto Bros", which wanted to give me "for free" all kinds of trading systems through WhatsApp. I'm no trader and these are the ads promoted by YouTube. Seeing Lambo Bois promoting crypto, I thought that everything was a big scam, an idea reinforced by occasional rug pulls. My interaction with Bitcoin came a little backwards, through the Lightning Nework. There's no reason to tell you the benefits, so I'll cut it short since Bitcoin and LN are "well-reviewed" on Nostr.
Now here I am learning from you. I know that I won't ever fully understand Bitcoin and I'm fine with it. I read and listen, sometimes again and again till I get it. But, because of you, I have hope. And I know that I'm a newbie and a normie but somehow I was welcome. Almost 5 months on Nostr and almost 4 months on a Satoshi diet.
Thank you!
