JDowie on Nostr: I found this can of Hoppes in a tote full of old fishing stuff that was mix and match ...

I found this can of Hoppes in a tote full of old fishing stuff that was mix and match stuff from my youth and mid 20s. I had put the stuff in a dresser in the garage, that turned into a disgusting mouse hotel for a few years... Anyway, when I tossed the dresser I basically put anything worth saving in a tote, 3 years ago. There's nothing like being on top of things. These days, I am doing a major purge and organizing of my shit, because my life is fucking chaos. I opened that tote, I had completely forgotten about, and found a nasty mouse excrement coated treasure trove of old stuff. There were expensive reels, a shitload of salt water gear, and some random rigging and whatnot. This and another like it were at the bottom. I was just blowing through cleaning everything off with a towel and bleach water so I didn't pay much attention. When I was wrapping up, I took a look at the cans and thought "wow, I haven't purchased any of those as an adult". Upon further investigation, I definitely didn't even purchase these. The tag says "Fays". That was the drug store where I grew up near Oswego NY. A small chain, I'm not sure how big as I was basically a preteen, and maybe 14 year old when they closed or were bought or whatever. I watched the Bills v Oilers playoff greatest comeback of all time game on a 12" Black and White TV at the Fays Drugs in the Pen Can mall in the Syracuse area. I have odd memories of a drug store. Anyway , I degress, I didn't purchase this, it's far too old. This might be the 1970s, or likely the early 1980s. I wasn't buying gun oil at 7 years old.

I just like to think about this statement, from the days before stupidity and politics reigned supreme over everything...

"Shit, I'm out of Hoppes. I guess I'll head down to the Fays Drugs Store and grab some (gun oil)"
