Uruguayan Foreign Minister justifies his change of position on Venezuela 🇻🇪🇺🇾
The new government of Uruguay justified its change of position on the situation in Venezuela, where it no longer recognizes opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia as president elect, but does not validate Nicolás Maduro as reelected president either. According to Orsi's chancellor, Mario Lubetkin, this does not mean “washing his hands” over the result of the July elections.
“We agree that that election cannot be recognized. Now, neither can we be Venezuela's electoral court,” Lubetkin told Radio Sarandí. The foreign minister said that the new government is not “insensitive” to what is happening in that country and its impact on the region. “We have to help these scenarios of instability to somehow transform into scenarios of stability”, Lubetkin pointed out, and estimated that ‘one way’ could be to hold new elections.
