I'm also amazed at chips like the TPS25730 these days. Couple bucks in unit quantity, but does full PD negotiating, and rail supervising, and status reporting over I2C, and configured with resistors so no eeprom needed, and some bonus GPIO pins??
Definitely a bit overkill but also damn I remember when USB PD was a $20 multi chip project!
