NEW: The California Public Utilities Commission failed to consistently track the number of accidents, assaults and drunk driving complaints happening in Uber & Lyft rides, according to a new report from the San Francisco County Transportation Authority.
SF has the greatest ride concentration of any city in the state, but the report points to inconsistent and incomplete data provided by Uber & Lyft. This complicates addressing priorities like road safety, air quality and access to transportation for people with disabilities.
In addition to safety complaint inaccuracies, the report found that 1 year of Uber rides contributed CO2 emissions comparable to a CA wildfire, and only half of all requests for wheelchair-accessible vehicles were served by either ride-hail company.
