I suppose it could be. Orpheus contains phe just like phenom does. If we take the same phonetic liberty there, we get phi. I can imagine that the "Orphic egg" is essentially symbolic of our state of gestation as human beings. "Hatching" from the Orphic egg would be akin to "graduation" from the cycle of reincarnation or, in other words, enlightenment.
The fact that there is a serpent wrapped around the Orphic Egg, to me, is a tip of the cap to Kundalini Shakti which is coiled up around the root chakra awaiting the occurrence of the prerequisite spiritual accomplishments for the activation of higher chakras.
I think we would be completely remiss if we failed to acknowledge the method of execution used on Christ and its relevance to the prominence of the cross as a Christian symbol.
On that same line of thought though, I could pretty easily make the claim that the Greek letter Chi (χ) is essentially a cross rotated and slightly distorted in terms of cross angle.
Also, I would think that the Egyptian Ankh a.k.a. the "Crux Ansata" deserves a place in this conversation as it is extremely similar to the cross used in Christianity.
