I'd also add that we've not had a general strike.
I've been analyzing this since I'm a "systems guy" and the industry I work in is dependent on supply chains.
A few things:
1) Lots of fed up and angry people mean more "nothing less to loose" feelings.
2) Strike responses will doubtlessly be stupid and non-productive. Things will get worse.
3) "Giving in" to a large strike is not something our business/political culture will manage. It'll be labeled terrorism.
4) The economy won't take it, especially if it gets disruptive.
5) Recovery will take years due to a delicate economy.
Our economy has a lot of delicate, poorly-run, systems run by people with short-term goals. It'll be ugly.
