Washington (the Union) President Joe Biden pledged to ensure a peaceful and organized transfer of power with President-elect Donald Trump. Biden said during his address to the nation yesterday that it is necessary to accept the American people's choice, describing the US electoral system as 'fair and worthy of trust'. In the context, Biden said that his running mate Kamala Harris led a 'historic' presidential election campaign. He mentioned that his choice of Harris as his running mate when he was a presidential candidate in 2020 was his first and best decision. He added that Harris advanced under exceptional circumstances and led a historic campaign in the elections. Meanwhile, President Biden's running mate acknowledged her defeat in the presidential election and said: 'We owe allegiance not to a president or a party, but to the US Constitution.' Harris added in her first speech after the election loss, in front of her supporters at Howard University in Washington, that 'the results did not achieve what we had hoped for', but she called on her supporters to accept the election results. Amid cheers from the audience, Harris said: 'Earlier, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory', and continued: 'I told him that we will assist him in the transition process and will participate in a peaceful transfer of power.' Amid applause from her supporters and several senior Democratic Party members, Harris said: 'I know people are feeling a range of emotions right now, I understand that, but we must accept the election results', declaring that she 'will never give up the fight for democracy and the rule of law.' Harris expressed her gratitude to the American people who elected her, considering that 'the result of this election is not what we wanted, is not what we fought for, is not what we voted for, but listen to me when I say: the light of America will always shine brightly.' She added, addressing her supporters: 'We will never give up the fight for our future, where Americans can continue to pursue their dreams, aspirations, and expectations.' Harris continued: 'We will continue to fight this battle in polling stations, in courts, and in public squares', hinting at the work that Democrats are preparing to do in the next four years. Harris expressed her pride in the presidential campaign during the 107 days of the campaign, adding that 'the fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose elections, we accept the result, this principle distinguishes us and distinguishes our democracy.' She continued: 'I did not win this election, but I will not give up the energy that drove this electoral campaign.'
