I think we make a lot of bad metaphors and comparisons of Bitcoin to other things because we don’t think people will properly understand it. But, if they want to learn about Bitcoin, they should actually take the time to learn! Plenty of resources available.
Start with the history of the cypherpunks, cryptography, and eCash. Explore the reasons why, all the way up to the Great Recession. Tell them to explore energy and proof-of-work, how the blockchain works and private/public keys.
We’ve watered down the narrative of Bitcoin way too much for the incredible and honestly miraculous culmination of decades worth of technology fused together it is.
It isn’t digital gold. It isn’t like Venmo. Bitcoin is Bitcoin.
