Brazilian President Lula (PT) called Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, and told her that she did the right thing by leaving the Senate's Infrastructure Committee on Tuesday (27). According to reports, Marina asked how the president was doing, given the labyrinthitis crisis he had the day before. Lula replied that he felt better knowing that the minister had left the committee because she had done the right thing. The First Lady, Rosângela Silva, also known as Janja, sent a message to Marina and defended her on social media. Janja said it was impossible not to be indignant at the disrespect shown to Marina during the session. Marina left the committee after the PSDB leader, Senator Plínio Valério (AM), said he wanted to separate the figure of the woman from that of the minister, as the former deserved respect and the latter did not. The session was marked by provocations, interruptions, and heated debates. In another tense moment, President Marcos Rogério (PL-RO) said that Marina should put herself in her place. "What you want is for me to be a submissive woman. I am not", Marina replied. Minister Gleisi Hoffmann (Institutional Relations) classified the behavior of Plínio and Rogério as "unacceptable": "Totally offensive and disrespectful to the minister, the woman, and the citizen. We condemn the aggressors and express total solidarity with the government of President Lula to Minister Marina Silva."
