I hear whispers among my car friends that this year’s The Quail “A Motorsports Gathering” is having a bit of trouble getting European supercar and hypercar makers to sign the dotted line on exhibiting during #Monterey Car Week.
The Quail is one of several top-billing events that mark the end of Car Week (the other famous one being Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance), and it’s where supercar and hypercar makers debut and showcase their latest models, and bring out rare and valuable #cars for the audience to admire. Manufacturer slots usually sell out a year in advance.
In addition to the economic uncertainty, one thing that give manufacturers pause is the political chaos that they’re potentially sending their employees into. Many of their employees have been openly critical of Trump; will they be harassed, turned away, or worse, detained at the airport? Manufacturers aren’t happy to risk this.
Anyway, just another data point.
