I feel like we're eventually going to get some good second layer on Bitcoin to produce Bitcoin only, not a sidechain smart-contracts or Lightning w/ Contracts.
This is where you could write arbitrary things with censorship resistance, I'd think, for a very low fee, making any intermediate middle ground messaging only thing kind of irrelevant.
