We don't really know what anything's worth though, not really. It might well turn out the rarest thing in the universe is actually water.
From the cosmology I've read lately it's certainly starting to look that way, and water is sold everywhere, far more readily than gold.
I actually think it's no value that matters. It's belief. The usd isn't the reserve currency because it's more valuable. It's because people believe in its stability.
My hypothesis maybe be tested in the near future. That would be interesting.
