My point was that very large crude carriers (VLCCs) and ultra-large crude carriers (ULCCs) operate on Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO), a byproduct of crude oil refining. These engines run at a constant RPM, which reduces strain on both the engines and the tanker’s superstructure. HFO requires pre-heating before combustion, and this is achieved through a feedback mechanism that uses heat from the engines to heat the fuel—a process that can be considered a form of energy optimization.
But again, those engines are large, and I am not sure how this would work with smaller diesel.
