I don't play cozy wholesome chungus games so I don't have any at my fingertips, but I think Stardew Valley is the prime example from recent years. It's meant to be relaxing, but because it doesn't want players to feel uncomfortable (or UNREPRESENTED!) there's no basis for the setting and it doesn't have much weight. If SV doesn't satisfy this requirement, then the literal scores of indie farming sims ripping off Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon that have released over the last four years will have plenty of meaningless stories and characters that don't dare to ask the player anything.
I played some of the original Harvest Moon games as a kid, and while they had simple stories about pastoral country life, they weren't mind-numbing.
