In 2002 I was getting briefed up in St. Petersburg, Florida (HQ of USCENTCOM) before heading out to my next duty assignment - US Embassy Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
At one briefing I sat next to a reservist who was a police officer from St. Petersburg.
I started to ask him about how well software, such as CompStat/CrimeStat was helping them fight crime.
He stopped me in the middle of the question.
"We don't fight crime. We push crime."
We all know what neighborhoods they push from, and where the crime gets pushed to. :-(
