a social distance, aka WoT number represents how far this person is from your immediate circle, thus the inverse square of each additional hop adding to that value, if we say my immediate circle is 100, then each additional hop is 10 more, and to make it distinghuishable, you need to invert that, so that my friends are 100, and their friends are 10, and their friends are 1, and then you can add together these values based on this
so, yeah, i'd probably derive a more simple formula based on that, this eliminates the popularity bias
