to be fair on the hydrogen boosters (and I'm not particularly one of them), we are now actually looking at pushing the last 20% of emissions out of the power mix in the foreseeable future, and decarbonising industry. And hydrogen is a semi-plausible part of that.
The tech may not be that different but we do now have loads of cheap solar and wind, and electrolyzers are one way to timeshift that over weeks/ seasons. An inefficient way but one that should actually work.
