The Torcal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site not merely because of its stunning geological karst formations, with a stacked stone effect, but also because it is aligned with the entrance to the Tholos de El Romeral, a megalithic burial mound dating from 1800 BC. One of three burial mounds in the area, with the other two pointing to the face-like mountain called Lovers' Rock, and to the sunrise at the spring equinox, marking the change of season.
