This is the beginnings of building a hűgel. A hűgel is a tall, self fertilised raised bed.

It’s a useful way of using the unwanted wood I’ve collected from both clearing the plot and hedge brushwood.

In time organic matter will be added into the pile of wood. A soil or compost outer layer will be added to plant directly into.

The inner wood and compostable material will break down to fertilise the bed and also provide wildlife habitat.
