My faves have been belts with several smaller bottles on them. Weight distributed evenly, small bottles easier to handle, and allows carrying more than one type of liquid. Hard to find those with much more than a liter of total capacity though.
CamelBak seems to be the go-to brand for long distance runners. I’d try to get my hands on at least a couple of models, to try them on and see which one fits best.
