I have a capture card, a blackmagic intensity pro4k if I remember the name correctly. I discovered it required systemd when I installed the drivers through aur once and it didn't work, while it worked on mint just fine.
I checked the thread on the aur page and someone said I had to enable a systemd service and when I did all worked fine.
A bit stupid I think. I reckon it could be possible to write a runit equivalent but that's way out of my competence, on my vps I'm starting to learn about writing systemd services to get shit to start automatically in a clean way, like for my radio there's a program, ezstream, that start as a user without shell or password through a service custom made as it didn't have one. I had help setting it up but I still managed to learn something.
Which in the end of the day is the main reason why I started self hosting shit.
It's fun and educational.
