Same opinion, but the Hong Kong precedent is not too encouraging, probably due to mainland mistakes and the wicked actions of the same contributors you mentioned above.
Anyway...Every time we tried to impose our values system on other civilizations it ended up badly. From a liberal pov if our model is the best, it will prevail in the free market of ideas. Imposing it through force and subterfuges is not the best way to advertise/promote it.
In the end it is always the golden rule: "don't do unto others what you don't want done unto you" - Confucius/Jesus/Siddhartha/Thales/Seneca/ecc.
