Okay so when Rent (the musical) came out I remember everyone gushing about how real and gritty it was and how it was obviously authentic bc the playwright was gay and died of hiv/aids right before the premiere and I’d like to remind y’all that Jonathan Larson was straight, cis, died of a brain aneurysm, and likely plagiarized a majority of the story from a lesbian novelist (though he replaced multiple lesbians in the story with straight men)
