I don't personally subscribe to the idea of original sin but I can appreciate all the perspectives here.
From my own perspective, we can't hope to encompass all perceived offenses. The idea that an individual would be required to request your forgiveness for something that they may or may not have intended or even noticed seems silly to me. It's very reasonable that the offense is in your (or my) eyes only, which is why we are not to judge. We are to forgive and that forgiveness does not require a request. It isn't transactional.
It's for your own piece of mind and has zero bearing on the perceived offender. By learning to do this, we grow in our own understanding, grace and compassion. It's how we find Joy in peril.
This growth is what it is to be Christian. The faith is supposed to actively change you. That change is called conversion and it is constant.
