I don't understand why Iran would hit NYC. In that position, I would simply obliterate Israel and be done with it.
US would retain the choice to retaliate for a smoldering pile or reconsider it's geopolitical policy. I would vote, the latter.
Striking US directly, would be stupid. It would be something I would expect from Israelis.
