"content": "I saw the devastating gold mining in Suriname, South America, with my own eyes and literally had tears in my eyes. The destruction of one of the most beautiful and unspoilt rainforests in the Amazon region through deforestation and groundwater contamination by mercury is a fact and can no be ignored.\nThe work is carried out in life-threatening conditions by workers who are paid a miserable wage. They live in poverty. These people do not work there for pleasure, but to feed their families. Inflation and the resulting high cost of living are among the causes of the problem.
