L'ak is a Breen.
Born with a gen defect, so he doesn't need a suit to survive outside their home world. The Breen Empire knows this and that's why he's on the run: They see him as the next evolutionary step all Breen will eventually be subjected to. Moll just happened to be around and now they look for a weapon to protect themselves. #StarTrekDiscovery #StarTrek
