I would need to see data that proved it. Even with solid support the path of being trans for instance is no cake walk that anyone would do as simply a matter of popularity. And indeed the data I have seen says that social contagion is patently false for being gay or trans. Also before you perhaps get to that regrets later after surgeries among trans people are far lower than for most medical treatments including things like knee surgeries.
