AI-generated child pornography is circulating. This California prosecutor wants to make it illegal.
==========
Ventura County Dist. Atty. Erik Nasarenko is advocating for a change to California law to protect children from AI-generated child pornography. Nasarenko received his first tip about AI-generated photos depicting an underage girl performing sex acts with an adult man. Current loopholes in California law prevent charges from being pressed in cases involving AI-generated photos of children. The U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received 4,700 reports of AI-generated photos depicting child sexual exploitation. Assembly Bill 1831, co-sponsored by Nasarenko, would make AI-generated sexually explicit images of children illegal to possess, distribute, and create. The bill has bipartisan support and is headed to the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee.
