How do you write an internal monologue and/or telepathy?
Telepathy can get complicated.
In this story, a goddess uses both speaking out loud and mental projection.
The MC-POV 'hears' those projected thoughts, but cannot answer in kind. She can discern the difference between spoken and projected only with concentration.
In the scene, the two converse while knowing there's an eavesdropper, so the MC-POV uses paper to ask her real questions.
