Today's popular culture would cry conspiracy if you told them that Leonardo da Vinci, like all the masters of his time, recognized the true Messiah in John the Baptist.
In his famous painting of the Virgin of the Rocks, in which the infant Jesus gives his blessing to the infant John, who prays to him in return, Leonardo da Vinci does indeed pay trompe l'œil homage to the latter... If Jesus was always an anthropomorphism of the sun, as our exegesis of the texts convinces us, could John be the second stone - pure as a child - in the cosmic sea, of which the Virgin is the face and the angel its heavenly character?
