Attention Nostr Developers:
I dont know if it has been addressed, or not yet, but we face a seriously challenging onboarding issue for new users as a protocol.
First I will ask a question. Which came first the chicken, or the egg. I'm sure you may have heard that riddle before. So you know it doesn't really have a good answer.
Now I will ask this question. Let's say someone who is so broke that they have to regularly decide between eating food, or affording medicine. They are a good artist. They want to start earning a value for value living on Nostr.
They need a lightning wallet for zaps. However, in order to start zapping bitcoin. They must either first purchase, or mine bitcoin (that they cant afford). Which is already on the lightning network, or own enough satoshis to put into the lightning network to run their own node. With the unfortunate alternative being using a 3rd party service. Not a truly trustworthy option.
If you are serious about self custody, but are too poor in wealth. Then how are we to resolve this chicken and the egg issue gracefully?
Maybe we should have the option of a Nip for alternative payment methods. Not necessarily shit coins, but a "Jolt" instead of a "Zap". Which could be used for non-lightning bitcoin wallet addresses instead.
Sure it is slower, less efficient, and less convienant. However so is being so poor that you are unable to get started in the Nostr ecosystem gracefully. They can save up enough satoshis to put on the lightning network if and/or they are ready to. Resulting in the hybrid car approach to lightning network adoption.
If this has already been addressed, or I have a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation please let me know. Thank you for your time. Responses and personal experiences in this situation are most welcome too.
