Letta MBulu - "What Is Wrong With Groovin’?" (1967)
Letta is a South African jazz singer who left the country in 1964 to escape apartheid. I think this is her 3rd single, released the same year as her debut LP.
I love the lyrics. I didn’t expect the word “pimpin’” to be used in a soul-jazz song in 1967.
Absolutely wonderful, powerful voice, backed by a cool, soulful rhythm section and piano.
