I agree that the far-right threat is rising. But fascist parties are not necessarily stronger or more cunning than they used to be — their MO of scapegoating is nothing new. Rather, the neoliberal centre is weakening, and the left is utterly marginalized. It's not that 1⁄4 of the population has suddenly become radicalized; people have always been a little fashy, but for decades they used to have more credible political outlets than parties that explicitly cater to those tendencies.
