Trump has largely capitalized on the Average American Citizen's lack of understanding of the true role of free press within the American society.
Our role as news journalists is straight forward in nature, we gather, analyze and report confirmed and verified factual information usually obtained from multiple reliable sources to our various readerships, so they can ultimately make informed intelligent decisions concerning important issues that affect their lives.
Our Journalist Ethical Standards are designed to keep us honest and the public safe: 1. Do no harm to society, 2. Maintain impartiality, 3. Present true, accurate, correct information to the public, 4. Do not discriminate.
People may take issue with my simplified listing of Journalist Ethical Standards, this is basic journalism 101.
I hate to advance the following argument:
"Trump is not the real danger to news journalists, it is the general public's failure to comprehend and understand the traditional role of news journalism which is the real danger to American society." -- Monica Andrews
We news journalists are not granted special powers of authority and indemnified from civil and criminal legal penalties under the U.S. Constitution First Amendment. When our readerships' privately and publicly solicit us news journalists to take risks beyond the breadth and scope of our normal intended established ethical journalistic standards of practices.
Our Readerships' themselves become 'radicalized' and a 'danger' to the freedoms that we hold so dear. When our readerships' misunderstand that news journalists cannot and will not utilize the written word to attack our readerships' perceived business, political and religious adversaries. Throughout history dictators have take advantage of the ability to radicalize followers. It is not Donald J. Trump's political propaganda to be afraid of, it is the American people who lack social sophistication that we should all be afraid of, a certain demographic of the American people find themselves easily manipulated by Donald J. Trump's forceful psychological emotional rhetoric.
Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press equally belong to all legal citizens of the United States. Trump has been highly effective at using freedom of speech to attack American Democracy. Unfortunately Trump is not the proximate cause of the erosion of Democracy within the United States. The people who attack the free press due to their lack of education are the people who attack and undermine their own liberties.
Yes Trump remains a formidable enemy to American Representative Democracy by claiming that the press is truly the enemy of the people. The real enemy of the people is the people themselves who are followers of people like Donald J. Trump!
