I'll probably host at home in 2024, but getting into this I had never dealt with server stuff before and had no clew what to do, so I got a vps just to get my feet wet.
Besides, vps is a bit cheaper to start than getting all the hardware. By a bit cheaper I mean like $40/yr for the first year of clew was ALOT cheaper than then $1000 or whatever for the hardware to self host
