i'm sometimes shocked that 2014-era arguments still didn't make it through: P2P and federated systems only scale if they divide up the work

block chains are bad in this regard: broadcasting every transaction to everyone (let alone storing it FOREVER) is horrible both for privacy and for scaling, but it is a necessity for a decentralized currency to have this shared "settlement layer", we don't know how to do better right now

however trying to do everything on that and calling it scaling is just absurd, i hope everyone can see that this doesn't work for a significant number of transactions, nodes would get buried (in the same way bluesky's "firehose" federation doesn't work)

so with block chains, layer 2 is a necessity for scaling
but i guess shouting "lightning sucks" is more fun than working on addressing its problems
Understand this: Lightning is the only DECENTRALIZED scaling solution on the table.

Those saying Lightning is dead all push for centralized scaling. The fact is, Lightning will never cease to exist. You can't turn it off. We're a bunch of Alice's and Bob's who won't stop.
