Yes I have no doubt, that they close. I doubt, that it is directly caused by one time payment. Nostr is so youngland an emerging market. It is completely normal, that it is hard to set up a relay and get the needed value out of it.
This depends on factors like:
Location, Hardware investment, backup capital, goals, cost of space used for hardware and cost of electricity used as well as the amount of energy used.
You just take one very small parameter of the whole equation, and think it all depends only on this one. And I say it depends on much more.
Since probably many relays are driven just at a net loss. People who are happy to host their personal relay. Maby they givelaccess to others, since they see they have more space they do not need soon.
From your logic, the whole opensource movement can not be working. Since it is, your model is flawed.
