Decentralization is the opposite of "private", and Nostr alone has no way of controlling that an event isn't broadcast to other relays, and no way of dynamically controlling who can see the content. There is no way to dynamically control who can see the content unless it is effectively locked to a range of servers or DRM is implemented, but that is not decentralization.

On the Fediverse side, "private" or locked accounts are simply not allowed to be followed by two-way consent, the content is still public. To be truly "private", the content must be disconnected from Fediverse and locked to a specific server.

Unless we can encrypt the content in advance for each audience and then make it public, but again if the content is always replicated indefinitely in the Fediverse or Nostr, then this will not achieve forward secrecy.
Meanwhile on Nostr, or "private Nostr" as once called it, we have a little bit of make-believe technology, but with better incentives, less blast radius and much more reliable and fine-grained implementations that give us actually much better chances of things working -- and yet thinks it's not enough and wants to run pure encryption functions on all the notes and make everybody's lives miserable for no gain because in the end screenshots still exist and are effectful, negating his purism.
